Rossi on target for Reserves

Giuseppe Rossi scored for United's Reserves in a 1-1 draw away at Fleetwood Town on Saturday as the Reds' second string continue their preparations for the new season.

The Northern Premier Football League club took the lead in the first half and, despite a Rossi-inspired United side dominating possession in the second half, looked destined for an unlikely victory.

However, the Italian Under-21 international, who has returned to the club after loan spells with Newcastle and Parma last season, finally got the goal his performance deserved in the 89th minute to claim a draw in front of around 2,500 fans.

Nani realises United dream

Now that Reds' new-boy Nani has finally made his debut, he admits it is a dream come true to be playing in a United shirt.

His rapid attacking play, well-taken goal and acrobatic celebration caught the eye on an impressive debut in the 6-0 victory over Shenzhen FC on Monday.

The 20-year-old's first outing as a United player have given him a taste of what is to come, and he believes he has found a club whose footballing philosophy perfectly suits his own.

"You look at the way Cristiano has grown as a player under Sir Alex. That is what I want to happen to me. To play next to him is like a dream for me."

Scholes to miss start of season

Reds midfielder Paul Scholes could be out for a month after suffering a knee injury on United's Asia Tour.

The 32-year-old has been sent home from United's pre-season tour of the Far East and will be undergo an exploratory operation to determine the extent of the injury.

"Paul felt his knee in the last game (against FC Seoul) and we've sent him home for an arthoscope to see what kind of damage there is," Sir Alex told MUTV.

"We don't think it is serious, but we will keep him out for about three weeks to a month."

That means the influential playmaker looks set to miss the start of the new season, which United begin at Old Trafford against Reading on 12 August.

Boss happy to wait on Tevez

Sir Alex Ferguson says he will wait as long as he has to for the Carlos Tevez transfer to go through, but admits he has no back-up plan if things don't go as planned.

The deal to bring the Argentine to Old Trafford is currently in the hands of FIFA and the club remain hopeful that the formalities can be completed before the summer transfer window closes next month.

"I'm confident about the Tevez situation," Sir Alex told a press conference on his arrival in Macau. "Until that isn't the case I'm happy to wait until the clearance comes through.

"If it doesn't happen then we'll have to reconsider our plans but I have nothing as a fallback at the moment."

Chief Executive David Gill added that although the matter is a complicated one, he too is confident of a positive outcome.

"It's been worked on by all the parties involved," declared Gill. "We're in discussions with the FA and FIFA and we hope to have a resolution soon."

FIFA agree Tevez, Man Utd talks tomorrow

FIFA have agreed to meet representatives of the Premier League and Football Association on Monday over Carlos Tevez's protracted move to Manchester United.

The Argentina striker's advisor Kia Joorabchian last week accused West Ham of saying one thing in private and another in public in their stance on the Tevez ownership issue, something the Upton Park club strenuously deny.

With the Premier League sticking to their position that West Ham own the player after they tore up the third-party agreement with Joorabchian which landed them in so much trouble, the Tevez camp asked for FIFA to step in.

And members of FIFA, the FA and the Premier League will now convene in Zurich on Monday to decide whether it is "appropriate" for the world game's governing body to arbitrate in the dispute between Tevez and the Hammers.

A Premier League spokesman said: "The Premier League and the FA will be meeting to discuss whether it's appropriate for FIFA to arbitrate on the dispute between Tevez and West Ham.

"West Ham contend that they have a four-year contract with the player and the player's representatives contend that it's a one-year contract with escape clauses."

United remain totally convinced FIFA will eventually rule in Joorabchian's favour, an outcome which would cause the Premier League huge embarrassment.

Nani set for Reds bow

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Nani is on course to make his United debut against Shenzhen FC on Monday.

The match, which is live on MUTV Online and MUTV for UK and Eire subscribers, kicks off at 13:00 BST in Macau and the Portuguese winger is likely to feature in the Reds' third game of their Asia Tour having overcome an ankle problem.

Owen Hargreaves is again a big doubt for the game because of a knee complaint, but the 16,000 Reds' fans who will pack into the Macau Stadium seem set to witness at least one United debutant in action.

"Nani should be ready for Monday," revealed Sir Alex at his pre-match press conference. "He's been training well and should feature during the match. Owen has been doing some good training and is not far away.

"It should be another tough game for us. The first two matches have been of a good standard and I expect the same again on Monday."
